Dementia represents one of the most complex challenges in the healthcare field. With its multiple manifestations affecting memory, cognitive abilities and physical function, finding effective and motivating methods for stimulating these capacities is crucial.
In this context, inmeRsiVa was born, an innovative project that integrates virtual reality (VR) technology to offer people with dementia an attractive and effective form of physical-cognitive stimulation.
What is inmeRsiVa?
This project explores the potential of virtual reality to design activities that go beyond conventional therapies. inmeRsiVa uses immersive environments that combine physical and cognitive exercises adapted to the needs of users, promoting not only adherence to treatment, but also an enriching and motivating experience.
In collaboration with AFAGA and its team of professionals, we have created activities based on expert clinical knowledge. This synergy between technological innovation and experience in caring for people with dementia has allowed us to develop tailor-made experiences, always seeking to improve the quality of life of users.
Promising results
After an initial pilot test, inmeRsiVa has shown promising results:
- Improvements in adherence. Participants have shown significant interest and commitment to the proposed activities.
- Impact on reminiscence. Specifically designed virtual environments have facilitated the evocation of memories, generating positive emotional responses.
These findings, together with those collected in the literature, suggest that virtual reality could become a key tool to improve the care and well-being of people with dementia.
Project driven by collaboration
The development of inmeRsiVa has been possible thanks to the joint effort of multidisciplinary teams and committed organizations. This collaboration highlights the importance of uniting clinical and technological knowledge to address complex challenges such as dementia.
Our goal is to continue perfecting this technology and exploring new ways to incorporate virtual reality into treatments that contribute to people’s well-being, while we work to validate its effectiveness through studies.
